Young Chief Joseph

His Nez Perce name was Hinmut-too-yah-lat-kekeht

which when translated into English means “Thunder Rolling in the Mountains.” He is commemorated in dozens of ways. His likeness is everywhere it seems, and his name is ubiquitous. A town is named after him, as a hotel, a rodeo and a mountain.

Meet the 2017 Chief Joseph Days Court


Haley is a 15 year old sophomore at Joseph High School and the daughter of Cory and Dena Miller.  She has three younger brothers Hadley, Harley and Hanley. She was born and raised in Wallowa County. Haley is following in the tradition of family with great grandma Icel Edgemond Miller 1st Queen of CJD in 1946, Grandma Debbie Nobles Gilbert queen in 1976 and mom Dena Rynerson Miller princess in 1996.


Maddi Tracy-Mallory is a 16 year old junior at Joseph High School. and the daughter of Jill and Clay Mallory.  She has three siblings, sister Marli and brothers Zane and Owen. She also has a great grandma and two sets of grandparents who live in the area, as well as a large extended family.


Caitlin Robb is the 17 year old daughter of Bill Robb and Sherry Robb of Wallowa.  Caitlin is a coming Senior at Wallowa High School.  She has two older brothers Justin and Wesley and a younger brother Joe.
